Urban Living,
Life I mentioned before that my best friend went home from Dubai because her mom was ill. It was only about three weeks since that time and yesterday, I received a text message from her that her Mom passed away. Until now, I don’t know what to say. I feel sorry for my best friend. I admire her Mom because she’s so sweet and caring to her children. I feel sad because I can’t be there. I can’t be there because I’ve got a new job. Tomorrow would be the first day when I have to do things alone in the office. My boss will be there tomorrow and it’s not that easy to ask for permission to absent from work because I just started last week. There are lots of things expected from me. This is the first time I prioritize work over something.
I hate this feeling but I guess this one of those things that I have to learn, again, as part of growing up.

Fab Dahling I am busy…
1. Reading a book by Lois P. Frankel, Ph. D entitled: Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office - 101 Unconscious mistakes Women Make That Sabotage Their Career.
I felt like I was trapped in my childhood and I can tell that not until I read the book, I am still a little girl trapped in a woman’s body. I know that I act childlike and childishly most of the time and reading a book made me reflect and see my attitude from a different view.
Here are the top ten things that best apply to me:
1. Mistake #9. Avoiding Office Politics.
2. Mistake #16. Needing to Be Liked.
3. Mistake #22. Being Overly Concerned with Offending Others.
4. Mistake #51. Staying in Your Safety Zone.
5. Mistake #58. Explaining.
6. Mistake #59. Asking Permission.
7. Mistake #60. Apologizing.
8. Mistake #64. Talking Too Fast.
9. Mistake #6. Being Naive.
10. Mistake #21. Sharing Too Much Information.
This book is really good, somehow I know how I can further stretch my comfort zone.
2. Reading articles that could help me grow.
3. Reading articles about proper dressing. Though I am now working in a corporate environment but people don’t really pay attention to corporate dressing, I opt to stay on the conventional side. Dress for the part.
4. Reading lots stuffs on the internet about GTD. I still don’t know where to start, really.
5. Driving around the metro and loving it - except the part when I have to park the car. It’s a mind boggling thing for me. Especially when I’m reversing, I’d steer to the right and completely forget how many times I turned the steering wheel.
I am also busy reading this site…

Urban Living Okay, I’ve got one more day of ‘training’ left before I’d be left on my own. The outgoing EA had turned over the office equipments to me already, including the company issued mobile phone with post-paid subscription. Yay! Now, there’s no reason for me not to go to work.
I mean, this is the first time I get this TIEDUPTOWORK. Right now, I am still loving it. Every bits of it. And I really hope this will work out for me. But to be honest, I am quite challenged about this job. Proper time management and efficiency is crucial to my job. Overwhelming responsibilities and I love it. I’ve got lots of things to do every single day and my efficiency starts with being organized.
I know there’s outlook, but there are other things that I’ve got to do which I can’t do in a computer. Such as keeping all files neatly and organized. Ehem, ORGANIZED. Good thing there’s the Internet and I can find most of the support that I need.

Okay, I know I mentioned I want the Nokia E90, but the kid in me screams “I want that!” when I found this fone, it’s only available in Japan. Not really a surprise but why can’t they make one that would work in other countries (Philippines perhaps)?
Love it, so cute. But yeah, I won’t look good carrying one of these in the office!

Life As I mentioned, I am now trying to expand my happy corner, aka my comfort zone - by getting a job (a really unplanned an unexpected one, but enjoying it nonetheless). SO… I wonder, is falling hard down the stairs a PART of such ‘growth’?
Okay, I am not ashamed to admit, being spastic as I am, I fell hard down the stairs yesterday morning at work. It was a shock slash denial slash confusing moment for me. I didn’t realize at first that I was actually falling until I found myself suspended in the air and felt my fone hit the pebble floor. OUCH. Good thing no one saw me trippling down the stairs. The company asked me to go home early and get my self checked. No fractured bones (thank God)!
Right now, I am busy with work. The outgoing EA still got two more days to train me before I’d be left on my own. I hope this time things will work out fine.
___
The other day, I was caught by an MMDA police while I was turning left from Shaw Blvd to EDSA. Earlier that morning, we (I and the outgoing EA) had a meeting with my boss’s wife in one of their office in Ortigas. We left Makati around 4pm - we decided to just bring Miss N’s car because I haven’t drove in EDSA yet - I wasn’t really prepared for the ‘unexpected’ things in EDSA - notorious drivers, traffic, among others. My b/f picked up the car from my office so he could pick me up from Ortigas after the meeting. We thought the meeting would be over by 6:30 but it ended around 7pm, which means, my b/f couldn’t wait for me anymore. He had to be in the office 7:45 in time for his work.
I told him to just bring the car with him and I’ll just take a cab. But right after I sent the text message - he told me he had to go and that he left the car in the parking lot somewhere in Ortigas - so I HAD TO drive myself back to Makati. I wasn’t ready for it. My feet were aching because of my high heels, it was raining hard, it was so traffic and I’ve never been to EDSA. BUT I HAD TO. Amidst the traffic, I was so scared that I had to take EDSA, I sent him a text message, FURIOUS and told him that if something happened to me - it’s his fault. Then I made the turn - then there they were THE MMDA traffic enforcers under the flyover, flagged me down for THREE violations:
1. Beating the red light;
2. I don’t have the car violation with me (or so I thought, I later found it in my bag)
3. Apparently, because I haven’t registered the car yet. I know I can still register it because it’s still October!
MMDA boy told me they had to confiscate my plate AND my license. The rest was history.
It was a nightmare. My gas level was already low, it was raining, I had no money, violated, weak, tired and pissed off.

Gadgets Hmmm… The long wait is over
Leopard on October 26th! I don’t know if I am really excited about this because right now, I am itching to get a new mobile fone…

I got my first mobile fone when I was in first year college. It was an analog one and I can’t remember what it was. Back then only a few person owns one and Globe (the only network providing SMS service was still starting up (I think). After a while, I asked my mother to get me a Nokia 5110. It was the IN thing at that time, together with some of Motorola, Ericsson, Siemens and Philipps mobile fones with SMS feature. I could still remember the time I bought my 5110, I got it from Ever Gotesco Recto. Those days when ‘reconditioned’ ones were non-existent yet. Those days when people haven’t thought of stealing a mobile phone. It was still ’safe’ to text while you were on the streets. I used it for a couple of months and was confiscated by my Dad when I flunked my five-unit Chemistry subject. I got it back after a month, it was already December. I was saving up my pre-paid credits at that time for Christmas greetings and calls, though it was always ‘Network Busy’ those times and you can always get a “Message Sending” failed message about a million times before you can finally send one.
So, I was walking home when someone grabbed my hand. A person alighted from the motorcycle - with someone who was wearing a jacket who seemed to be the one driving - grabbing my yellow 5110 off my hands. It was traumatic and when I got home crying and running my mother thought I was raped. Haha. But I cried hard at that time because I knew that I lost something expensive (an PhP8000 gadget was expensive).
So Christmas and New Year passed by and I got nothing to use to greet everyone (very few actually). Come January (second week I think) I got a new one, my mother bought me again a mobile phone: Nokia 3210. It was the best at that time, no antenna, it was sleek. It was still about 11,000 at that time. But one thing about the 3210 is that it has a week LCD which tends to become loose rendering the screen unreadable.
I could still remember that I would sit in one of the benches of my school just to cut-out prepaids cards and stuff it in between the cover and the LCD, it would work for a day but not for good. I would even pray everyday (while fixing my fone) that God may heal it. One day, when we (family) in Batangas, I was then again fixing my LCD. I laid it on the top bed (of a bunk bed) I even used a blanket to underlaid it. It was like I was putting a kid to sleep.
Then, my mom rushed to the room and pulled the blanket. The next scene was morbid. I saw my defective but beloved 3210 smashed into pieces. The battery, front and back covers, and the tiny card I used to ‘repair’ the LCD. I was mortified I cried so hard. My mom can’t pacify me until my sister told my mom to get me a new fone instead. The Nokia 6150 that I’ve been eyeing (but didn’t actually want to get one)…
After two weeks, I got hold of my new 6150. I loved it. I even had its cover changed by a celfone technician. Two weeks of using and I was really contented. One Monday morning, while I was waiting for a jeepney, I was really happy and I even admired and wiped off the screen. I loved its new cover. Then people came rushing to aboard the jeep - I was next in line when the person in front of me turned around and just decided he didn’t want to ride the jeep anymore. I felt something. Some-thing, slipped off my pocket. Someone picked something from my pocket. Then poof!!! My celfone was again, GONE.
I was so scared that my Dad would kill me if I tell him I just lost my two-week old fone. I then tried to replace with another one. Then my 18th birthday came and I asked from him his Nokia 8210 as a birthday gift.
He obliged.
After that I got the Nokia 8250, 6210, 8850, 7110, Ericsson something and Sony Ericsson Z600, another 8250, 6310i, Siemens ME45, Nokia 6510, 3530, 6610, Motorola V60i. It was a vicious cycle and I started LOVING to have the latest fone. Then I lay-low for about a year just used a Sony Ericsson T68i then a Sony T610 - then got Nokia 7650 and some forgotten Samsung fones and then became addicted again, got the Nokia 6230i and Nokia 6630.
Just last year, I used about 5 fones in a year. I started the year with:
1. Motorola V3 in pink - which, at that time costs about 12,000. After a week I decided I cannot use it any longer because, um, it’s quite dumb. Then I got -
2. Samsung E730 - loved it, but it didn’t last long. I decided I don’t a flip fone instead. It also didn’t have cutomizable profiles and no themes for download. Then -
3. Samsung D600 -
4. Sony Ericsson W600. Didn’t last that long because I craved for -
5. Sony Ericsson W800. Then I suddenly ‘needed’ money because I badly wanted to have a laptop bag. Sold it and got a Number 5 instead -
6. Nokia 6060. A very humble fone, simple but not dumb. used this for the longest time. Until the N-Series arrived and I wanted
7. Nokia N70. Used it for a month until I was supposed to buy my friend’s XDA IIi but the sale didn’t push through so I got an
8. XDA Mini instead. Until someone scratched the screen and then along came the -
9. XDA Atom. Which I loved loved loved. I almost sold my iBook (because they weren’t compatible) and since I loved my Atom THAT much I thought I can sacrifice my OS X. But I got back into my senses and realized that it wasn’t my iBook that has issues - it’s the WIndows Mobile that’s
kinda faulty.
Then came 2008.
Surprise surprise.
1. I switched back to Nokia N73. Loved it too.
2. Then I used the good old Nokia 6060
3. Then got the Samsung D900.
4. Then Nokia 6300 - WHICH I REALLY LOVED. But then again, I needed funds for photography so I purposely hit rock bottom and downgraded to —-
5. Nokia 1112. Back to basics.
6. Used my mom’s 6070 until —-
7. Tadah, my Nokia E61i that I’ve been using since June. It’s record breaking.
Hmmm. I want the Nokia E90 but it’s expensive OR the XDA Trion or Zinc… :p

Life It’s always hard to move out my happy corner. I’ve been pampered in some ways that sometimes, it’s painful when I resist growing up.
I know it’s best for me. I guess it’s harder when you have to do something because you have to than doing something because you choose to do it. Such as those things expected from you at a certain point in life.
Okay, lemme clear things up, I ain’t a brat but there are things that admit - that sometimes, I am stubborn and obstinate in refusal to grow up. Not always in a bad way though.
I have to somethings that I have to do - because I want to do those things that are expected from me. It’s growing up is hard, but it’s HARDER when I try to resist changes. Negative thoughts and feelings would always consume the best of me.
On a lighter note and speaking of CHANGES - I want to change my disastrous hair style…. Immediately. But my hair texture is NOT your ordinary kinda hair. I have to spend thousands before I can make a hair style work for me (ie, rebonding and lots of treatments)…

Fab Dahling I want to have my car repainted (washover) to remove the tiny scratches. Been thinking of a nice color but I am leaning towards keeping the original color instead - which is uh, I forgot, but it’s ‘Maroon’ for normal people like me. But when I saw this site, everything somehow changed, I am now considering having its color changed from maroon to, yes, PINK!

Gadgets I missed two offers from BlogVertise because I didn’t get to check my email last week, which is quite sad. I don’t really know how those things work pay-out terms and stuffs and I missed two opportunities. I hope to
receive another offer from them soon.
On the other hand, I received an email about these cute iPod cases from ShadesCases.com. Real cuties. Though they don’t offer any for my (ancient) iPod Mini. Too bad I want this HotPink case because ehem - it’s Elle’s signature color
And from their CEO,
“ Shades iPod Cases, were designed to be thin, light, and protective, still leaving the iPod fully accessible and stylish.” Sounds nice ‘eh?
And for the past month, I also didn’t get the chance to visit GeekSugar! This news is quite, er, cute - do you think you can survive the pressure when you’re in this class?

If I were using a PC in this class, I don’t think I can. :p Source. Coolness?

Life Finally got my non-pro license!
Yey! Now I can legally drive because for the past month that I’ve been driving alone around Taft Avenue (Manila) I didn’t have a license. I even refuse to drive to Makati in broad daylight and when the cops are around. Now I can drive alone - I just have to say it again because I cannot believe it :p No more waiting for someone with a license to accompany me when I have to go somewhere.
My best friend is back, though we haven’t had he time to go out and really talk because she needs to look after her mom. I wish I could be with her 24 hours but I just can’t because of parking fee issues and all other commitments, i.e. my life. I may be driving but I am so broke recently.
The other week I got to save PhP2500 from all the allowance and stuffs (starving myself to save enough). I was sorta saving up for gas and I was also thinking about getting a new pair of Havs or maybe a new bag - or just something that can lighten me up. Then, tadah - the power steering hose broke down. Had it repaired for about 2300++ So much for my shopping fantasy.
And also last week, I chanced upon a gorgeous sleeve for my MacBook. THAT sleeve that I’ve been wanting to have ever since time immemorial - I had the money at that time, but because I want to keep my ’savings’ for something more important - aka car maintenance, I had to let it go.
Oh, is Leopard out yet? I am so out of the loop that I don’t know what’s in or out. I got to see (by chance) the new Nano’s but right now, I don’t have any appetite for those kinda gadgets. All I’m thinking about right now is are car maintenance. And oh add-ons.
Car stereo (second hand, slightly used will do) - 3,000
Car antenna - 3,000
Washover - 30,000
Gear shift and boots - 3,500 (Momo) or 1500 (for generic)
Headlights and some more add-ons - 5,000
and the list goes on.
I am not saying that I am going to spend as much as (insert amount here) for the car right now, because honestly, I don’t have the means to come up with such amount. But it’s just a wishlist. Or maybe I should just scratch that list and replace with: “Ford Focus” instead! Now that’s really wishful thinking.
Then, there’s a really long story about my LTO visit earlier but I’ll write about that later.
